From the film’s page on Reelhouse.org: “BEASTS explores the idealized notions and uncertainties of post-college life. From the perspectives of three post-grad students, Beasts chronicles the daily struggles of paying rent, finding love, and the stress of failure. These graduates learn that no college can prepare them for the animals that live in this world.”
I did the sound design, music composition, foley, ADR, and mixing for this film alongside my friend and fellow engineer Luke Thompson. A lot of the film was shot at outside locations in Chicago, so we recorded a good deal of ADR to makeup for poor location sound quality.
A large portion of the film was also improvised, including an entire in-film musical. However, all of the musical was recorded a capella, so we had to compose and record accompaniment to fit the improvised songs in post-production, which was a huge challenge but also a blast.
